Claremorris Energy Co-Op successfully received planning, partnering with Mayo County Council for two 5MWe 100% community owned solar site and successfully winning RESS1 as the first of two 100% community owned sites in Ireland. Presently, Claremorris Energy Co-Op have worked with 13 other counties in Ireland to promote renewable energy through solar, successfully bringing another 9 energy co-op through the connection to grid process and ready for RESS2

Claremorris Energy Co-Operative have successfully contributed to Irelands A 40% Renewable Heat Vision for
Ireland to Deliver 7%, per year CO 2 Abatement per Year Heat Mapping Plan for Ireland. Chaired by Marie
Donnelly (Present chair of the Climate Action Committee). The objectives of the study are to provide a better
understanding of heat demand usage, to assess the potential renewable energy resources available and to
explore appropriate technical pathways to decarbonise our nation’s heat supply. The project highlighted the
need for community participation and emphasized on projects such as the Claremorris district heating proposal.

In 2017, Claremorris Energy Co-Op has successfully partnered on the Interreg project GENCOMM. The project
addresses the energy sustainability challenges of NWE communities through the implementation of smart
hydrogen-based energy matrixes. Developing facilities fueled by Solar Power, Wind Power and Bioenergy, the
project measured their ability to produce and store hydrogen, together with its viability as a sustainable energy
solution for heat, power and fuel for remote communities across NW Europe. The hydrogen produced will be
used to create power, heat and for use in transportation (both as a fuel and for fuel cells in batteries). Project is
being concluded

In 2019, Claremorris and Western District Energy Co-Operative submitted as part of the climate action fund, a

Mayo’s First Decarbonising Zone Community Application Form

submission to build an 1km/1Mwth district heating network in Claremorris. After over fours year of feasibility
studies, community participation and commercial justification, the Co-Op completed the designs and commercial
evaluations to develop a community owned district heating (referred to as DH) project. The community
organization undertook a study with Tipperary Energy and Mayo County Council to develop a district heating
network utilizing a renewable energy solution for the town.

In 2021, Claremorris Renewable Energy working with the Renewable Gas Forum Ireland, Danone, Glanbia
Ireland, Dairygold, Carbery, Lakeland Dairies, Tipperary Co-op, Wyeth Nutrition. and KPMG, produced the phase 1
Feasibility Study (Sept 2020-March 2021) for project clover considering the economic, regulatory and practical
feasibility of delivering the three core work streams for the agricultural sector including developing a viable
indigenous bio methane industry, monetizing organic fertilisers and maximising soil carbon sequestration
potential. The report is presently being presented to Government.

On May of 2018, as part of the proposed DistrictHeating proposal for Claremorris, the Claremorris and Western District Energy Co-Operative proposed a jointventure to Mayo County Council to design, build and manage a District Heating network. The submission forfunding was not successful. However, the organization has worked closely with the District Heating Associationof Ireland with the intention to resubmit the application in 2021.h In 2025 Claremorris enerrgy co-op successful commenced the MUSE District heating energy project.
